Maquette Pole: Quii Qwathla – Dance Figure

A scaled figure called a Maquette pole is carved from yellow cedar. The Quii-Qwathla is a fun dance in Nuu-chah-nulth culture. Each nation of the nuu-chah-nulth has their own version of the song. The dance is imitating the sparrow looking for food. Ray enjoyed watthing his little ones perform the dance. “It is a dynamic dance” – Ray Sim 14 1/2H x 4 ¾ sq Yellow Cedar, Acrylic paint, Flicker feathers & Copper
