Bentwood Tackle Box

A bentwood Tackle box was used at the bow of the canoe. Nuu-chah-nulth whalers would keep the harpoon tips in the box for whaling and seal hunting or halibut hooks. The shape of the tackle box was designed to fit tightly in the bow of the canoe. This is made from one board of wood that is steamed and bent into a box with one seam. The base and thelid are then added. bottom length is 18″ x 4 3/4″ Height is 11 1/4″ and the lid is 11 1/2 x 13 1/8″. “I take great care in building each bentwood box, and would never let one go to market if I was not happy with it. This policy, I will always keep.” Wayne Dick
