Gordon Dick’s Cedar Native Art Gallery houses local Northwest coast Canadian First Nations Art

In the fall of 1996, Gordon started scouting out a location on the Pacific Rim Highway of the Tseshaht Reserve. He envisioned a studio Gallery. He had one set of plans drawn up to prepare for his storefront. Waiting for the right time… Then in 2007, he was prepared to start his venture. The time was right. He was accepted, with full support for a business loan from the Nuu-chah-nulth Economic Development Corporation (NEDC) in the new year of 2008.

The day the loan was approved, he took initiative and started falling trees to clear the lot. In this highly visible location people saw and began wondering about the new construction happening. Many regular highway travelers watched the progress of construction. From the trees fallen, Gordon milled the wood to be used in the construction.

Through Ahtsik Native Art Gallery Gordon wants to role model that First Nations individuals can be successful. He aims to share with the world talented Nuu-chah-nulth and other First Nations Artists. Ahtsik Native Art Gallery appreciates the handcrafted work that Canadian Aboriginal Artists put into their Art pieces. The Gallery will house original Art from Many First Nations.

Original Northwest coast Indian Native Art work is of various mediums: Carved Jewellery: silver and gold, weaved baskets, wood carvings: totems, masks, bentwood boxes, rattles, panels, photography and pints. Custom orders are welcome. Gordon’s enjoys carving structural and decorative pieces for homes. Such as, doors, posts, and supporting panels. He also, offers sandblasted Native designs on glass and for steel security bars and railings. Gordon’s latest endeavor was creating totems. He completed a land marker and a 23 foot totem pole for Tseshaht First Nation.

Ahtsik Native Art Gallery will also host themed group art shows during the year. Giving Canaduan Indian Artists the freedom to explore their creativity and present their ideas to the public.
