2015 Artist-In-Residence: Nuu-chah-nulth carver Gordon Dick

Nuu-chah-nulth artist Gordon Dick will be the 2015 Carving on the Edge Festival’s Artist in Residence. Gordon will be on site beginning Monday, August 31 for 8 days, carving from start to finish a 10 foot cedar panel, demonstrating his craftsmanship and skills. Within a contemporary design, the carved panel will represent Gordon’s first memories and teachings from his late grandfather: the responsibilities that were taught to him through fishing. The carving is meant to speak to the importance of passing on a healthy ocean and a healthy lifestyle to future generations. ‘I am concerned about the health of our fish and our oceans; and I want to put these ideas, feelings and traditions into this work of art.’

Gordon Dick owns and operates Ahtsik Gallery in Port Alberni that also serves as a carving studio for several emerging artists. One week beginning Monday August 31, 10am – 5pm daily. Join him on the covered Shore Pier on the water
